Wow it has been forever since I've had the time and motivation to work out. Fortunately I've decided I better get back at it. Since I'm at home all day it seems like the best use of my time. I'm currently at 290 lbs which is quite depressing. I've gotten a tummy and even more thighs but I do have a fair amount of muscle mass so I'm just hoping that by eating right and getting back in the habit of working out I'll be able to shed some pounds. Wednesdays are now weigh in days!
Today I hit up Wii Fit Plus and did some jogging in place, WOO HOO! two 30 minute sets for a total of 7.162 miles and some kettlebell training in between. If you're not familiar with kettlebell training it is absolutely wonderful cardio and strength training, here's a little run down:
Kettlebells are cast iron that look like a cannonball with a handle. They are used to perform ballistic exercises which combine cardiovascular, strength and flexibility training. The center of mass is extended beyond the hand which allows for a variety of ballistic and swinging movements. Kettlebell exercises build strength and endurance, mainly in the lower back, legs and shoulders. The main movements are the swing, snatch, clean and jerk, which engage the entire body at once.
Don't let their size fool you, these things definitely get heavy as you go!
If you're looking to add kettlebell exercises in your workout I suggest checking out the below video and then Lauren's website. She definitely does a great job showing you what you need to do. Lauren's website has videos as well as the option to buy some great DVDs. She also has a blog that i follow and it's down there on the right in the side bar =)
